Thank you to all who auditioned. There
were a lot of VERY difficult decisions for me to make,
but at the end the day I believe this cast is going
to be STELLAR!! For you younger performers who did not
make the cast this time, please come back again! We
just decided that with the small number of you that
auditioned, we would stick with our older kids –
but you were all great! If anyone in the cast has a
question about casting choices that they would like
to address with me, I will say this: normally I would
not share the ins and outs of why I cast a particular
way, however – this is a learning process for
all of you, especially in this show’s capacity
as a partnership with the Jefferson County Theatre Academy
at Shades Valley. In fact, those of you in school at
Shades Valley will be receiving a grade for your work
on this production. For those educational reasons only,
I will give you one opportunity, and one only, to discuss
with me what my rationale was for casting you (and yes,
I will only discuss YOU with you) in the role you are
in. When all is said and done the overall reason for
all of you is that I know what will make this show work
on every level I as Director need it to. But I know
that sometimes, particularly as young performers, you
might want to know what you “could have done differently”
or how you might work on strengthening your overall
“package” as a performer. Understand though
that I must consider EVERY aspect of you as a performer
in this particular show – LOOK, DANCE, VOCALS,
ACTING, and STAGE PRESENCE (in no particular order),
and in many cases it will come down to a very small,
but important, difference in just one of those categories
that will end up determining my decision. At any rate,
if you wish to talk to me, send me an email before tomorrow
afternoon and I will be available to you for 30 minutes
before rehearsal begins, from 3:30-4. After that, I
expect everyone who is onboard to be onboard with all
their heart and soul as make magic with the Alabama
premiere of this rockin’ show, because when we
finish (just like the song from our show says), “You’re
gonna know, in your soul, that THIS is what we came
here for!” I look forward to kicking off with
you on this adventure!
Let’s Rock!
